Gold farming basics

What is the best way to make gold in WoW?

For most players, farming: pick a farm that suits your class and the time you have, and sell what you loot. The best farm changes with every patch, so check the farm list, which ranks farms by the gold per hour players actually made recently.

How much gold per hour is good?

There’s no fixed number, because prices change with every patch. The farm list shows what players are making right now, and when you submit a run you’ll see how it compares with that farm’s average.

Is solo gold farming worth it?

Yes. Most farms on Gold Cloud can be done solo, and the best solo gold farms list ranks them by gold per hour.

Do I need professions to farm gold?

No. Plenty of farms need no profession at all. Gathering professions like Skinning, Herbalism and Mining add materials to sell, and each farm shows which professions its runs needed.

Addons

What’s the best addon for tracking gold per hour?

Time Is Money. It times your run, adds up your loot’s value using auction house prices and shows your gold per hour live, which covers everything you need to fill in a run.

Do I need addons to submit a run?

No. You can time your run with a stopwatch, or the run timer at the bottom of every page, and add up your loot by hand. Addons just make it quicker and more accurate.

Safety and accounts

Is Gold Cloud safe, and is it allowed by Blizzard?

Gold Cloud is a fan site where players share in-game farming routes and results. Farming in game and using addons from CurseForge is normal play. We never ask for your Battle.net login, and we only use your email address to run your account. Gold Cloud isn’t affiliated with or endorsed by Blizzard Entertainment.

Does Gold Cloud sell gold?

No. Buying or selling gold for real money breaks Blizzard’s terms, and links to gold sellers aren’t allowed anywhere on the site.

What’s shown publicly on my profile?

Your nickname, approved runs, profile picture and anything you add to your profile, like a main character or social links. Your username and email address are never shown. The Privacy Policy lists everything.

How do I delete my account?

Go to My Account, then Login & security, and choose Delete account. Your runs, upvotes and pictures are deleted with it.

How Gold Cloud works

How is gold per hour worked out?

Each run's total value (raw gold plus any materials, equipment and transmog values) divided by the time it took. A farm's average uses its runs from the last 12 months, its newest 50 at most, so it follows the current patch.

Why do some farms show as outdated?

Patches and expansions change farms, so a farm's averages only use recent runs. If a farm has no recent runs, its numbers come from older ones and it's marked Outdated. If you've farmed it lately, submit a run to bring it up to date.

What does Confirmed mean?

Players upvote runs they've tried that worked for them. A run with 3 or more upvotes gets a Confirmed badge.

Why is a fastest time Unverified?

On dungeon and raid farms, the fastest time shows as Unverified until we've checked it. A screenshot or video with your run helps us check it quickly.

How do I become a Trusted Farmer?

We check your first 3 runs. Once they're approved you're a Trusted Farmer: your runs go live straight away, with a badge by your name.

Submitting runs

What counts as raw gold, materials, equipment and transmog?

Raw gold is the gold you looted plus grey junk sold to a vendor. Materials are things like cloth, leather, herbs and ore, at the price they actually sell for on the auction house. Equipment is armour and weapons you sold to a vendor. Transmog is gear you sell on the auction house.

Can I add a screenshot or video?

Yes, both are optional when you submit a run. A screenshot can be a JPG, PNG or WebP up to 5 MB, and videos can be YouTube or Twitch links. They're shown with your run, so crop out chat or anything private.
