This policy explains what information Gold Cloud collects, why, and what you can do about it. We’ve kept it in plain English. If anything is unclear, contact us (details at the bottom).
Who we are
Gold Cloud (“we”, “us”) is a community website where World of Warcraft players share and compare gold farms. It is run by James Lapham, based in the United Kingdom. We are responsible for the personal information described in this policy.
What we collect
When you create an account
- Username: used to log in. It is never shown to other players.
- Email address: used to log in, reset your password and send account emails. It is never shown to other players.
- Password: stored in scrambled (hashed) form. We can’t see it.
- Nickname and “About you”: optional, and shown publicly on your runs and profile.
- Main character and social links: optional. If you add them in My Account, your character’s name, realm and region, and your links or usernames for YouTube, Twitch, X, TikTok and Discord, are shown publicly on your profile.
- The date you joined.
When you use the site as a member
- Runs you submit: farm, game version, time taken, gold, materials and transmog values, and any optional details you add (class, spec, solo or group, region, professions, run type, notes and video links).
- Farms you suggest, and the upvotes you give to other players’ runs, including when you gave them (used for the monthly leaderboard and to spot vote manipulation).
- Guide suggestions: improvements you suggest for a farm’s guide (such as its location, route steps or key items), and any pictures you upload with them. We check every suggestion before it’s used.
- Your settings: your preferred game version and submission defaults (class, spec, solo or group, region), so forms are pre-filled for you.
- Trust status: how many of your runs have been approved, and whether you’re a Trusted Farmer.
- Favourite farms: the farms you save with the ☆ button. Only you can see them.
- Notifications: messages to you about your activity, such as when a run, farm or guide suggestion is approved or a run of yours is Confirmed. Only you can see them, in My Account, and they’re deleted after 90 days.
When you visit the site
- Our hosting provider automatically records technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, in server logs. These are used for security and to keep the site running.
What is public
Gold Cloud is a community database, so some information is shown to everyone:
- your nickname, “About you” text and the month you joined
- your main character and social links, if you’ve added them
- your approved runs and their details
- your approved guide suggestions, which become part of the farm’s guide and are credited to your nickname, and the number you’ve made on your profile
- your public profile stats (runs, upvotes received, best gold per hour, total gold, favourite farm, main class)
- your Trusted Farmer badge, and your place on the Top Farmers leaderboards (all time and this month)
Your approved runs also count towards the monthly community goal. That only shows totals (gold farmed and how many farmers took part), not who submitted what.
Your public profile appears once your first run is approved. Profiles with at least 3 approved runs can appear in search engines such as Google, along with your social links if you’ve added them.
Your username, email address and password are never public. Runs waiting for review are only visible to you and to us.
Cookies and browser storage
We only use what the site needs to work and to remember your choices:
- Login cookies (
wordpress_logged_in_…,wordpress_sec_…,wordpress_test_cookie): keep you logged in. These are essential, and are set only when you log in. gc_version: remembers whether you’re viewing Retail or WoW Forever, for one year. It contains only that choice.- Coin game score (browser storage,
goldcloud_coin): your coin-flip score in the footer game. It stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
We don’t currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If we add them in future, we’ll update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
Links to other websites
Gold Cloud links to other sites, such as members’ social profiles, Wowhead item pages, CurseForge addons, YouTube videos and our Discord server. We aren’t responsible for those sites, and their own privacy policies apply when you visit them. Links that members add are marked so that search engines don’t treat them as recommendations from us.
Emails we send
We only send emails about your account: password resets, a notice if your email address or password is changed, and news about your runs (for example, when you become a Trusted Farmer). We don’t send marketing emails.
Why we use your information
- To provide your account and the site (necessary to provide the service you signed up for): logging in, submitting runs and guide suggestions, upvoting and showing your profile.
- To show the profile extras you choose to add (your consent): your main character and social links. You can change or remove them at any time in My Account.
- To keep the site useful and fair (our legitimate interests): checking submissions, preventing spam, fake runs and vote manipulation, and working out farm averages and leaderboards.
- To keep the site secure (our legitimate interests): server logs and protection against abuse.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your information. We share it only with services that help run the site, and only as much as they need:
- Our hosting provider (WP Engine), which stores the site and its data.
- Our email delivery provider ([EMAIL PROVIDER]), which delivers account emails.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your account and runs are kept until you delete your account.
- When you delete your account (My Account > Login & security), we delete your account details (including your main character and social links), your runs, your upvotes, your favourites, your notifications, and any guide suggestions still waiting for review (with their pictures). Suggestions we’ve already approved stay in the farm’s guide, because they’re now part of it, but your name is removed from them. Farms you suggested stay on the site, without your name, because other players’ runs are linked to them.
- Server logs and backups are kept by our hosting provider for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
Your rights
You can:
- see and change most of your information yourself in My Account (nickname, About you, main character, social links, email, password and defaults)
- delete your account at any time in My Account
- ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to object to how we use it, by contacting us
- complain to your data protection authority (the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)). We’d appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
Children
Gold Cloud is not for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we’ll delete it.
Security
The site uses an encrypted connection (https), and passwords are stored hashed. No website can be perfectly secure, so please use a password you don’t use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If the changes are significant, for example adding advertising, we’ll let members know.
